Hi! My name is Maggie, formally Margaret Fox McIlroy. I am 20 years old, hailing from a Pittsburgh suburb called Fox Chapel. I graduated from Fox Chapel Area High School and played for the field hockey for the Foxes…do you see a trend here?
People ask me all the time if I was named Margaret Fox because I live in Fox Chapel. Fun fact for ya: I was actually born in Fort Wayne, Indiana and then spent the first 9 years of my life in a town called Longview, Texas. So, no, I was not named after Fox Chapel, although that would be pretty funny. Fox is the maiden name of my great-grandmother, Patricia Fox McIlroy, the most poised and proper (and terrifying) woman I ever met.
People use the phrase “spirit animal” all of the time…my spirit animal is definitely a fox. Foxes are elegant and mysterious, playful yet reserved. I like to think I embody a fox (I mean it is my name after all). That is why I chose The Foxhole as the name for this blog.
As you may have read on the home page, The Foxhole is my place of refuge. I went through a pretty tumultuous year and suffered from a deep, dark depression. I feel like I am finally coming out of the woods, and the light at the end of the tunnel is in sight. The Foxhole is where I plan to share my thoughts, feelings, and experiences in the hopes that maybe someone out there can relate to them, and in turn, feels less alone.
A little bit more about me…I am currently a sophomore at Miami University (the one in Ohio) (Another fun fact for ya: Miami University was founded before Miami, Florida was.) I am majoring in Psychology and minoring in Spanish and Nutrition, but hope to someday own a café/bakery/yoga studio. I am currently in training to become a yoga instructor. I am the oldest of three girls. My two sisters, Katie and Emma, are my best friends. My parents serve as a constant source of inspiration, love, and support. We like to spend our nights piled on the couch in front of a fire, watching a movie (usually picked out by Emma), with our two bulldogs, Gertie and Beau, at our feet. I am so lucky to have so much love in my life.
I am totally new to blogging, and I am sort of going with the flow and figuring it out as I go along. One thing I do know is that you can expect new, honest content every Monday!
